Former Ambassador for International Migration Cooperation (2009–2017) in the FDFA, former Director of the Federal Office for Migration (2001–2009) in the FDJP, many years of management experience and broad knowledge of national and international migration and refugee policy.

Since his regular retirement, lecturer on Swiss and international migration policy at the University of St. Gallen (until 2021), Commissioner for Refugees and the Economy at the State Secretariat for Migration and member of various international expert bodies on migration and refugees (Chairman of the Advisory Board ICMPD, Vienna; Global Migration Group, Berlin). He is also a speaker and expert on migration issues for federal agencies, private companies and Swiss foundations.
